Greetings from the secretariat of the 60th JAAS Annual Conference
18 November 2022
The 60th Annual Conference of the Japan Association for African Studies (JAAS) will be held at Makuhari International Training Center in Chiba City, Chiba on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, 2023. Due to the constraints of the venue, we will not be able to organize a hybrid conference. Kindly note that online participation will not be possible. To avoid the risk of spreading Covid-19 infection, a reception will not be held at this conference. Nevertheless, this will be the first JAAS annual conference to be held in-person after the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to meet online for 3 consecutive years. We hope that this conference will provide a memorable occasion for every participant to deepen old friendships, make new connections, and have heated discussions.
Preparations for this conference are carried out by the secretariat of the 60th JAAS annual conference made up of volunteer members of the JAAS who are affiliated with the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO). Since IDE-JETRO doesn’t have a facility to host a large-scale academic conference, this conference is going to be held at a rented venue in the vicinity. We would appreciate it if you could pardon us for possible inconveniences and unexpected troubles that might occur during the conference.
We look forward to welcoming you in Makuhari, Chiba City.
- In the event that the number of Covid-19 infection cases goes up dramatically, we may be forced to change the method of the conference. Please make sure to check this website for the latest information.
